Book Thoughts: Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins (BLOGTOBER Day 17)
Today I finished reading Catching Fire, the second instalment in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy. It's just as gripping and fast paced as the first, but I have to confess I didn't enjoy it quite as much. I felt that more of the story should've been dedicated to the Games and time spent in the arena, instead of the Victory Tour and the whole preamble to the Games beginning. There were some key moments in the first half that were vital in setting up events to come, though - the kind where something triggers your memory and you find yourself flicking back to the beginning of the book to find that clue that'll piece everything together.
I love Katniss' character and the role she's taken on throughout the novels so far, and throughout her life. Taking on the traditionally male role of breadwinner and protector of her family after her father's sudden death, and taking her sister's place in the Games without question; her relations with Peeta and Gale are more of a secondary storyline which I found quite refreshing. Having said that, I'm still curious to find out what happens with that whole love triangle.
Off to buy the final instalment, Mockingjay, tomorrow, so hopefully will have finished the trilogy by next weekend. As I said in my review of the first book, I'm so late to the game with this series, but better late than never!
If anyone has any good book recs, let me know!
